At the risk of sounding excessively arrogant, to various European venture capital providers, last week at the Deeptech Founders incubator in Paris I set out the unique position of our as-yet-unproven Deeptech Seed Fund. In particular I explained how the existing early-stage funding structures (the easy money) do a great disservice to and work against the prospects of any future European deeptech unicorns – whilst doing wonderful service to the mass of less promising ventures.
Take a look at the video and get in touch if you are a:
– A European deeptech startup incubator that really helps connect ventures/inventors with their first customers
– An institutional LP interested in a creative discussion about early-stage venture funding. I’m in agreement with Chamath Palihapitiya and others on the poor alignment that the 2/20 model creates, particularly for early-stage funding.

Start of presentation 1:40 https://youtu.be/jwHwpHc8jCM?t=100 This tells how and why you need to find out if your deeptech venture has early-evidence of probably being specially successful and why you need to raise seed funding differently if you get this evidence
European seed-funding landscape 6:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwHwpHc8jCM&t=380s This describes how dominant, in Europe, public funds are, right up to Series B and how this creates problems for ambitious ventures that first engage with private investors too late.
Deeptech Seed Fund’s unique place in that landscape 34:35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwHwpHc8jCM&t=2075s Here I set out how we are the only private investor active in early-stage deeptech across Europe – with a world-view, not a single country or single region view. How the combination of us being multi-stage and us having strong links to later stage deeptech investors uniquely solves the later stage funding challenge for promising ventures that might need large later-stage fund raises.
